Principal’s News

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Congratulations to the children who have been awarded a PRIDE certificate in the last week. It is always lovely to see our school values being used around our school. In the last little while, these children have been awarded a certificate: Mila Holmes, Hudson Hughes, Jonny Chen, Jack Commons, Autumn Trembath, Amber Chang, Georgia Cotty, Mischa Chandron and Scarlett Carpenter.

Playgrounds after school

Please remember that we ask that children do not play on the playgrounds at 3pm UNLESS they are being actively supervised.

Children will be told to wait with the teacher at the carpark gate. If a parent isn’t there by 3.10pm, the child will be taken to the school office.

Bottom Car Park After School

At the end of the day the car park is closed between 2.45pm and 3.10pm, to allow our children to leave safely. We do not allow parking on the court side of the cones, this is to allow parents, toddlers and children to wait safely. If the car park is full, please park on the road. Maeke will not open the car park before 3.10pm.

Camp 2024

I was lucky enough to be able to get out to Camp Adair in Hunua last week to share a day with our amazing kids during their camp experience. I am so pleased that we continue to give our children these wonderful experiences. I saw children taking controlled risks, facing fears, climbing, getting very muddy and most importantly, enjoying facing challenges. It is vital that children are moved out of their comfort zones, in a safe and supportive environment. I was so proud of the teamwork and perseverance I observed. I was most proud of the encouragement and support they gave each other, as they climbed a pole, or worked collaboratively on a team challenge.

Firstly I’d like to thank the amazing parent volunteers. They were so supportive and their kindness and enthusiasm helped the children to face challenges and have a great time. We cannot offer these experiences for the children without the wonderful support we get from our community

I’d also like to offer my gratitude to Natasha Alexander  and the Year 6 camp team, for the hours of organisation, careful planning and taking time from their families to ensure our tamariki had an amazing experience that I know will be a highlight of their time at Greenhithe School.

Tread Lightly Caravan

Our junior children have been involved with the Tread Lightly caravan over the last week, The Tread Lightly Caravan is a mobile environmental classroom that visits schools in the Auckland region with a message about protecting and caring for our environment. This is a great example of the use of our activity contributions. Activities like this and our camp can’t happen without the activity contributions.

School Donations and Activity Contributions

These donations and contributions allow us to be able to run special days at school and have amazing trips for your children. Thank you for supporting us to give your child the best opportunities we can.

School Donation – $55 per term or $220 for the whole school year. The amount for 3rd or

subsequent children will remain at $37.50 per term or $150 for the whole school year.

Classroom Activity Contributions – $40 per term or $160 for the whole school year.

Kindo is our preferred method for all your school payments. We also have links for you to follow on our school website in the Community Connect section or in the drop down on the Info tab.

If you have any trouble setting up or accessing your Kindo account, please follow the help links on the Kindo website.

Community Connections

Greenhithe is a MITEY School

At Greenhithe School we are mentally healthy and feel a sense of belonging when we feel respected, valued and heard. Ideas and well being are valued, ensuring that everyone feels supported and appreciated.

Time is taken to build and nurture relationships.

Cultural Weeks: Learning about South Africa

      Learning about

  • Traditional Folk Tales through plays
  • History of the Gumboot Dance
  • Capital cities and place in the world
  • Origins of the national flag
  • Animals, food and clothing

Thank you to our learning assistants from the ESOL department and parent help to make this a wonderful experience for all our students, especially our South African families.

Greenhithe PTA

Thank you to all the parents and students who participated in the Math-a-thon.  I know the children benefitted from the focus on mathematics, and we raised over $12K for the school!

The Greenhithe School PTA has been very busy with the launch of the ‘Flavours of Home’ Cookbook, tea towels, bags, and dishcloths.  This is such a beautiful piece of history to keep and use! Thank you to all the families who have contributed. Orders can be made from Kindo!

We also had our Beats by Bingo night, and it was a roaring success, and we raised over $10K.  Lots of fun was had by all, and we are grateful to our sponsors, Anil and Jaydyn from Ray White, and other sponsors who contributed to the auction and raffle prizes.

Term 4 will see the PTA support the Athletics Day and, of course, our annual Summer Festival which will be held from 3pm – 7pm on December 13th. If you have a company interested in advertising or supporting the event, please email us!

We meet monthly on a weekday evening to discuss all things related to school life, provide a forum for community feedback, and fundraise for additional school resources. Our goal is to continue to grow and nurture the great positive community we have within the school and wider Greenhithe.
Everyone is welcome and is encouraged to come and participate. All of these wonderful initiatives need community support, so please reach out via our email ([email protected]) to find out more!

Thanks Sjaan
