Dear parents and caregivers,
I often hear of the initiative shown by our students at our school, the excellence they are able to produce in their learning and the respect they show to peers and staff. I continue to look forward to seeing the values of Perseverance, Respect, Initiative, Diligence and Excellence being shown across the school through the rest of the term. I look forward to passing out some of our special certificates to those who are observed using their PRIDE values. This week the following students have been awarded a PRIDE certificate: Maya Murphy, Neena Mcgregor, Zyana Hsu, Caleb Bowden.
Book Fair and Book Week
Thank you for supporting our book week. The book fair has been a huge success, as has the PTA Readathon. I know the children enjoyed some of the other experiences of the book week, including some visiting authors and the book character parade. We really appreciate your support of our school events. I would like to thank the volunteers who helped with the book fair, and a special thanks to our Librarian, Leandra Bloem, who did a wonderful job for our children.
Readthon finishes on the 12th November, so keep reading and being in to win a SPOT PRIZE!
Hats and Sunscreen
With some of the first glimpses of the sun this week after more rain, it reminds us of the importance of sun safety. Please ensure your child has a school hat. The children have to remain in the shade if they don’t have theirs. Please ensure they are named (and a class number is useful too). It is also time with our harsh New Zealand sun to ensure your child has sunscreen on when they come to school, if possible.
New Playground
You will notice that our new playground on the field by Isobel Road is close to completion. We will open this shortly and I know the children will enjoy this new facility for our school. If you have any ideas for developing the school or small property upgrades, I’m keen to hear! We want to make sure we continue to be well resourced and provide the best environment we can for the children.
2024 Enrolments
If you have a child who will be joining our school in 2024 can you please contact the office to begin the enrolment process. This is vital to ensure we can secure the best teachers for our school, the earlier we know our numbers, the better we can prepare. If you know of any families through daycare or kindy that also may have children joining us in 2024, can you please ask them to come and see us.
School Protocols
Thank you for supporting our health and safety protocols for adults on site. These are important so we know who is at school and to ensure the safety of your children. Please do not go to the classrooms to pick up a child to go home early.
Please remember:
- To drop any items to the office such as lunchboxes.
- To call into the office if you are picking your child up for an appointment or to leave early. Our office staff will then send for the child to meet you up at the office, this ensures we know who is on site at any time.
Opening of the New Entrant Block
Today we officially opened our renovated teaching space. This will become our New Entrant space. We had special guests from our local kindies, who are likely to be some of the first children to be in the space next year. We also had our Board, the contractors, project managers and some parents attend. Our Kapa Haka group, led by Whaea Vikki, supported us with a variety of waiata. They were superb and performed with so much energy. Matua Mate Webb conducted the opening with us, and I’d like to thank him for supporting our school. It was a really special event, and one I was proud to be a part of.
