Principal’s News

Dear parents,

The term has flown along! A term that started with such disruption and hardship on some of our families finished today with a wonderful assembly and demonstration of learning. I was so proud of the kids who led the assembly so beautifully and all of the children in the classes who presented. This summed up for me the effort I have seen in all of our classrooms. It demonstrated how our school curriculum continues to celebrate art, sports, singing, science and New Zealand histories and drama as well as the key skills of literacy and mathematics, which continue to unpin all of our learning areas.

I am so proud of the staff, who have again shown skill, passion and dedication this term, giving our children an amazing start to the year. They will continue to work over the school break, preparing for next term and the many opportunities I know they will be offering our children.

Last week we held a parent evening about cyber safety and provided information on our school wellbeing programme ‘Mitey’, which is a New Zealand based programme supported by the Sir John Kirwan Foundation. Graeme Muller, from NZ Tech and a former Greenhithe parent, gave some frightening statistics about the online harm from social media that children face today. Greg Duff, Head of Education and Engagement with N4L, a parent and one of our Board, provided some information on how the school network, provided by Network 4 Learning (N4L), protects our school from cyber attacks and how the filtering helps protect the kids at school. Finally our amazing school team gave some information on our wellbeing programme. 

This meeting came out of the parent consultation from last year and was something we also thought would be useful for the community. Thank you to those who attended and we hope you took some great information and support away with you. We have put the presentation slides in our newsletter as was requested.

I wish all of our children and their families a wonderful time away from school and we are looking forward to continuing the great start we have made in term 2.

RIPPA

Rippa registrations are now open on Kindo. Rippa is for all children Years 3-6. There are two tournaments held at Moire Park Massey – one in term two and one in term three. The cost is $10. These tournaments are held during school time and practices are held during lunchtime or before school. We also need any parents who could help by coaching a team – it does not need to be every week, these two tournaments are lots of fun and it is all about giving it a go as there are no competition points given.

CONGRATULATIONS

Marco from Room 23 recently represented and captained Team Tahiti in the Oceania Tag Nationals. The team came first in the under 11 boys age group. Way to go Marco. Here is a photo of Marco and his team.

Jazz School, School holiday Big Band workshop

This will be an exciting three day school holiday workshop where year 6, 7 and 8 students will learn to play in a Jazz Big Band and then perform a concert for family and friends on the final afternoon. The Big Band is for Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone and Clarinet players plus Electric Guitar, Piano, Bass and Drums. The music we play will range from jazz standards to modern pop classics with an emphasis on having fun while producing music at a high standard. April 12, 13 and 14.
