Principal’s News

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Our PRIDE values of Perseverance, Respect, Initiative, Diligence and Excellence are very important to us at school. The children are reminded about what these values look like in many contexts around our school, including in the playground, on the sports field and when learning in the classroom. The leadership team of myself, Kelly Knowles and Michelle Butler give out PRIDE certificates when we catch children obviously showing our values, these are displayed in the office, before coming home with the children. It is one of our highlights to see these values being shown around our school. We acknowledge those children who get these awards in the newsletter. In the last three weeks, the children who have gained these awards are:
George Hou, Amelie Prentice,Cody Stephens, Elijah Yang,Ruby Paterson. William Holden, Otto Deihl, Sean Min, Sienna Visser,Jayden Ng, Chloe Chen,Nicole Yan, Grace Sun, Felix Chen and Rylee Faaee.

Art Exhibition

Next week we have our Art Exhibition. Please come and see the amazing artwork that our school has produced. We certainly have many talented young artists at our school. The variety of styles of art are fabulous!

At Greenhithe we are committed to continuing to ensure your children have access to a rich and wide curriculum.  Our academic results remain very high but we won’t lose sight that children have strengths in different areas and we need to ensure all of our children have a chance to shine, whether through their academic performance, sporting achievement or through the arts.  I look forward to seeing you at the exhibition.

Open times to visit the exhibition: Wednesday 11th September – 6pm – 7.15pm, Thursday 12th September – 3pm – 4.15pm.

It is important we know our numbers to help us secure the best available teachers for your children. Please also support us by asking any families through daycare or kindy that also may have children joining us in 2024 to call into the office.

If you have a child turning five in 2025 please come and enrol them as early as possible. This supports our recruitment processes for next year.

Community Connections

Greenhithe is a MITEY School

At Greenhithe School we are mentally healthy and feel a sense of belonging when we feel respected, valued and heard. Ideas and well being are valued, ensuring that everyone feels supported and appreciated.

Time is taken to build and nurture relationships.

Plovers on our School Field!

Kaitiaki have been quiet this term as the weather has not helped with projects around our school.  However, we have had plovers nest on our field over the school holidays. We have talked to Bird Rescue, the SPCA, and DOC. to find out more about them. We have cordoned off the area to protect the chick and us! The plovers have been very protective of their little one. We have left poles on the field to act as scarecrows, and at the moment we are not allowed on the field. We also learnt that plovers are not good fliers, therefore, to protect ourselves from the plovers, we would need long poles with bright material on the end, while we placed our scarecrows.  The good news is that we have been able to support the growth of a plover chick.

From the Art Room

Amazing artwork with watercolours from our year 2s.

Greenhithe PTA

The Greenhithe School PTA have been very busy over the past few months working on the ‘Flavours of Home’ Cookbook.  Thank you to all the families who have contributed; the recipes are just yum!  Launch and pre-orders will be happening later in Term 3 so watch out for our communications.

Term 2 saw very successful Neon Discos, Pre-Loved Uniform Sales, Cross Country Sausages and Iceblocks and a popular Pizza Lunch.  Thanks for supporting these activities and to the parents who volunteered time to help.

Term 3 will be a very busy one with not only the cookbook but also Math-athon and our parent only activity ‘Beats by Bingo’.  An event held in the school hall which will bring out the competitor in us all!

Fundraising this year has gone to support the cover for the sandpit, the basketball hoops, and will go to tidy up the road area and fence on Isobel Road and the roll out of the new literacy curriculum. We meet monthly on a weekday evening to discuss all things related to school life, provide a forum for community feedback, and fundraise for additional school resources. Our goal is to continue to grow and nurture the great positive community we have within the school and wider Greenhithe.
Everyone is welcome and is encouraged to come and participate. All of these wonderful initiatives need community support, so please reach out via our email ([email protected]) to find out more!

TOUCH – we are making some changes!

Touch for our Years 1-6 children, will now be played at Sunnynook Park on a THURSDAY. There have been several factors for the change of competition including less other sports clashing with touch and a  larger competition. We will review how it went this term, before making a decision about next year.

Touch registrations are now open on Kindo which includes all the details you will need. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me or Emily Tromp our Touch coordinator.

NORTHERN BAYS FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

At the beginning of this term, we took six teams to compete in the Northern Bays Football  non-competitive tournament. The children had so much fun, with many parents commenting how well behaved our children were and how they showed great sportsmanship. Thank you to the coaches on the day – Paul Steele, Brayden Visser, Simon Peters, Rob Muller, Steve Harris and the numerous parents who helped with our Year 4 team. Thanks too for the parents who helped transport and manage a team, we really appreciate your support. Here are a couple of pictures from the day featuring our Year 4 boys team and our Year 3 and 4 girls team.

NORTHERN BAYS WINTER SPORTS DAY

A couple of weeks ago, we took a team of mainly Year 6  children to the annual Northern Bays Winter Sports Day held at Kristin School. We had such a great day with all of the children representing our school with great sportsmanship and skill. Thanks to the parents who transported the children and supported them during the day.

Congratulations to our netball team, coached by Melanie Highet, who came fourth.  Our Hockey team coached by Kathryn Hill, came fourth a well, which was an amazing effort as we had some Year 5 children in this team as well. Our football team coached by Jamie Tonkin came third, and our Miniball team coached by Josh Farr had an excellent tournament and  also placed  3rd. Thanks to all of these coaches, you did a wonderful job and the children were lucky to have your expertise for the day. Here is a photo of our third place football team who only had one loss to Kristin 1-0 in round robin play. Kristin went on to win the final.

MINIBALL

The final results came through early this term for our teams who have been competing in the North Harbour Basketball competition. We had some great results with one team winning their grade! Congratulations to the Greenhithe Warriors, awesome effort.

Pictured is the winning Warriors team with their coach Michael Tromp.

HOCKEY

A couple of weeks ago, our two Year 5 and 6 boys hockey teams played each other. They showed great sportsmanship and their skills ar continuing to improve. They even got to take a photo at the end of the game together!

CONGRATULATIONS

Todor from Room 30,  is having great success with his  Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He has just started competitions, and has  won four gold medals, one silver and one bronze so far.

Be a Buddy, Not a Bully: Fitness with Heart

Introducing the “Be a Buddy, Not a Bully” fitness program—a fantastic opportunity for kids aged 8 to 12 to get active while learning the value of kindness and respect. This exciting program combines engaging workouts with essential anti-bullying lessons to help children build strong bodies and even stronger friendships.

From playful obstacle courses to group workout challenges, our activities are crafted to build self confidence and encourage collaboration. But that’s not all, we weave anti-bullying messages and teamwork principles into every exercise. Through games and discussions, children will understand how being a supportive friend and standing up against bullying can make a huge difference in their school and Our Greenhithe community.

Join us in this mission to cultivate both healthy bodies and compassionate hearts. With “Be a Buddy, Not a Bully,” fitness becomes a tool for forging friendships and building a supportive, bully-free school environment and community.

Sessions are 45mins long, 4 days a week on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

For just $360 per term, your child will participate in fun, interactive fitness activities designed to boost their confidence, teamwork, and physical skills.

We understand that families have different needs, so we offer flexible payment options to make participation easier. Join us in making fitness fun and meaningful, where every workout is an opportunity to be a better friend and stand against bullying. Sign up today and let’s work together to build a healthier, kinder community!

Jazz School, school holiday Big Band workshop

This will be an exciting three day school holiday workshop where year 6, 7 and 8 students will learn to play in a Jazz Big Band and then perform a concert for family and friends on the final afternoon. The Big Band is for Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone and Clarinet players plus Electric Guitar, Piano, Bass and Drums. The music we play will range from jazz standards to modern pop classics with an emphasis on having fun while producing music at a high standard. This workshop will be run by Drew Hutchinson. Students must be playing at grade 2 level or higher, or have had two years of lessons. The workshop is on October 9, 10 and 11 from 9am – 3pm at Parnell District School 48 St Stephens Ave, Parnell.

Feedback from previous workshops:

“I cannot tell how much we enjoyed your workshop on so many levels; watching our child’s confidence grow, making new friends, the location and of course the music was fantastic”.
