Principal’s News

Dear parents,

Our PRIDE values of Perseverance, Respect, Initiative, Diligence and Excellence are very important to us at school. The children are reminded about what these values look like in many contexts around our school, including in the playground, on the sports field and when learning in the classroom. The leadership team of myself, Kelly Knowles and Michelle Butler give out PRIDE certificates when we catch children obviously showing our values, these are displayed in the office, before coming home with the children. It is one of our highlights to see these values being shown around our school. We acknowledge those children who get these awards in the newsletter. In the last two weeks, the children who have gained these awards are: Lena Rahmati, Sean Chen, Patrick Hooper and Devin McEntee.

Disco Night!

Friday is our highly anticipated disco night! I know the children are looking forward to this! I’d like to thank our amazing PTA for all the time in organising this, I know the kids will have a great time.

During the disco we are asking for you to pop into room 14, next to the hall, to give us some opinions and feedback regarding ideas for a graduate profile, looking at the skills and traits you’d like your child to leave our school with.

I have organised for the Deputy Principal from Albany Junior High School, Demian Shaver, to be present in room 14 during the senior disco, to give our parents of children who are going, or thinking of going, to AJHS after their children leave Greenhithe, an opportunity to learn a bit about the school and ask any questions. This is a great opportunity to come and learn a little about the school, which is the place most of our kids move onto after year 6.

Junior Cross Country

I was so proud of our junior children who took part in their cross country on Wednesday. They certainly showed our school values of excellence and perseverance. It was great to see the amount of family support that came along to cheer on the children. I would also like to acknowledge the Year 6 children who marshalled the course and even supported some of our children by running with them. I love seeing the leadership and care our older children demonstrate.

Bugs and Sickness

Unfortunately we seem to be at the mercy of winter bugs and illness.  We are having a few tummy bugs and colds going round. We would appreciate it if you can talk to your children about general hygiene and hand washing. We are also reiterating these messages in the classroom. If your child is sick, please keep them at home!

Please be aware that we have a 48 hour period (2 days) when the children are not allowed back to school after vomiting. Adhering to this is important to allow full recovery and to ensure we protect the health of the other children and staff at the school. We appreciate your support and adherence to this protocol.

Uniform and Sunhats

Our uniform is important. Please remember that shorts and trousers should be plain and navy blue, denim is not allowed.  If your child wears a long sleeved top under their shirt it must be navy blue and plain.  If you have any questions about uniforms, please talk to the office or your class teacher.

2024 Enrolments

It is important we know our numbers to help us secure the best available teachers for your children. If you know of any families through daycare or kindy that also may have children joining us in 2024, can you please ask them to come and see us.

School Donations and Activity Contributions

These donations and contributions allow us to be able to run special days at school and have amazing trips for your children. Thank you for supporting us to give your child the best opportunities we can.

School Donation – $55 per term or $220 for the whole school year. The amount for 3rd or

subsequent children will remain at $37.50 per term or $150 for the whole school year.

Classroom Activity Contributions – $40 per term or $160 for the whole school year.

Kindo is our preferred method for all your school payments. We also have links for you to follow on our school website in the Community Connect section or in the drop down on the Info tab.

If you have any trouble setting up or accessing your Kindo account, please follow the help links on the Kindo website.

Thank you for your continued support of our school.

Community Connections

Greenhithe is a MITEY School

At Greenhithe School we are mentally healthy and feel a sense of belonging when we feel respected, valued and heard. Ideas and well being are valued, ensuring that everyone feels supported and appreciated.

Time is taken to build and nurture relationships.

From the Art Room

Year 6 Collaborative Art

Islamic art makes stunning use of radial symmetry, where patterns radiate out from a central point. This creates a sense of infinity and reflects the concept of divine unity (Tawhid) in Islam.

Shapes are then repeated and mirrored across the surface, often radiating outward from the center.

This repetition creates a sense of infinity, reflecting the idea of God’s oneness and the endlessness of creation.

This radial symmetry can be found in mosques (domes, mosaics), carpets, pottery, and other decorative elements. It’s a beautiful and symbolic aspect of Islamic art.

Greenhithe PTA

The Greenhithe School PTA are busy in planning mode for 2024 and would like to share some of the exciting activities we will be running. As per our previous years we will run the Second-Hand Uniform sale and Pizza lunches, support the school athletics days and Cross Country with iceblocks and sausages.  There will be a School Disco, a Movie Night held in the hall which we will run a survey that the children can vote for the movie they want to watch, Quiz night for the parents, Summer Festival will go ahead in December as well. Over the course of this year the PTA will be organising a Greenhithe School cookbook and asking families for their favourite recipes plus we will have a Maths-a-thon to round out the curriculum during Term 3-4.
We meet monthly on a weekday evening to discuss all things related to school life, provide a forum for community feedback, and fundraise for additional school resources. Our ultimate goal is to continue to grow and nurture the great positive community we have within the school and wider Greenhithe.
Everyone is welcome and is encouraged to come and participate. All of these wonderful initiatives need community support, so please reach out via our email ([email protected]) to find out more!

Pop along to the next meeting on 23rd July in the school staffroom at 7pm.

INTER SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY RESULTS

Last Wednesday we took a team of  runners to compete at Coatesville School in the Inter School Cross Country. Points were allocated to any runner who finished in the top 6 of their races. Congratulations to our runners, we placed second this year!

Thanks again to those parents who helped transport and marshal on the day. Next Tuesday the same team is off to the Northern Bays Cross Country at Long Bay Regional Park. Good luck to all of those runners!
