Dear parents,
Welcome to 2024! We are excited to be back up and running! It was lovely to be at the bottom car park today and see the excitement of the children. The kids had some great stories about their summer adventures, and I know they were glad to be meeting up with some friends again. It was lovely to walk around the school and to see them settling so well into their classrooms and making new friendships. It was also great that we came back this year to lovely sunshine!
Over the summer break we continued to work on the school site with maintenance projects, ensuring we continue to offer the best and safest environment for your child to learn in. The classrooms on Isobel Road are now open, following a long and complex renovation!
Sun Safety
Please ensure your child has sunscreen applied and a school hat for term one. Please make sure the hats are named and have their new class number as well!! The last couple of days has certainly illustrated the power of the New Zealand sun!
Uniform
Please ensure your child is in our school uniform. The children must wear the school polo shirts. The lower half garments must be plain navy blue in colour. Jeans/denim are not considered appropriate. While we don’t specify footwear, we ask that the children do not wear jandals. In term 1, the school hat is compulsory. If you would like any further clarification either you can see the policy on our website or ask your child’s teacher. The uniform shop is open on site each Wednesday morning: 8:30-9:15 am.
Whanau Afternoon
On Friday 16th February we have our Whanau afternoon (2-3pm). This is an open afternoon for you to come in, see the classroom in action, perhaps support or even participate in the classroom activities. In the hall members of the Senior Leadership team will be beginning some parent consultation on school achievement reporting to parents. There will be other opportunities to engage with us on this review. Please call in and have a chat. We will be there from 1.45pm. This is also an opportunity to just come and have a chat with the leadership team at school.
School Donations and Activity Contributions
We are in the process of setting up our Kindo system for the coming school year and by 7th Feb 2024, you will see the donations and activity contributions for 2024 load into your My Kindo account.
The cost of running our school and offering your children the broadest range of activities is continually increasing. The costs of school activities, transport costs and resources continue to rise beyond the increases we get in school funding. We do acknowledge the rising costs in all areas of life and again for 2024, we are not increasing our school donation or activity contribution. We thoroughly appreciate your contributions and donations as it allows us to offer your child the best learning opportunities that we can.
Our 2024 contribution requests remain unchanged from last year and are as follows:-
School Donation – $55 per term or $220 for the whole school year. The amount for 3rd or subsequent children will remain at $37.50 per term or $150 for the whole school year.
Classroom Activity Contributions – $40 per term or $160 for the whole school year.
Kindo is our preferred method for all your school payments and the following pages have all the information you need for setting up your account if you are a new family to Greenhithe School or you were unable to set an account up last year. We also have links for you to follow on our school website.
Medications
If your child has an asthma inhaler or other medication such as epi-pens, please check with the office that we have the correct and up to date information for your child’s needs.
Phones At Greenhithe School
While mobile phone use for children at primary school is not the issue it is in older year levels, we still have a clear procedure in place at our school. If your child brings a phone to school it must be handed in to their teacher. The phones are then stored securely in the office and the phones returned at the end of the day. No phones are permitted in the classrooms or during break times at school. This has been in place for some time at our school. This meets the criteria recently set out by the Ministry of Education.
