Dear parents and caregivers,
Our PRIDE values of Perseverance, Respect, Initiative, Diligence and Excellence are very important to us at school. The leadership team of myself, Kelly Knowles and Michelle Butler give out PRIDE certificates when we catch children obviously showing our values, these are displayed in the office, before coming home with the children. It is one of our highlights to see these values being shown around our school. The students who have been awarded these PRIDE certificates this week are: Scarlett Carpenter, Frankie Steele, Cooper Prescott, Ella Kendall, Maya Murphy, Priyaana Choudhury, Isla Ramsey.
Scooter/ Pedestrian Safety
While I do see a lot of our children using their scooters sensibly and crossing roads carefully, I have also had a few messages from parents regarding children stopping not on road junctions.
Please have a chat with your child if they scooter independently to school about looking for and taking care around pedestrians and road crossings. The hills around us mean kids can get up some speed, and we are hearing of some near misses and accidents. I appreciate your support in keeping all of our community safe.
I also would like to ask all of our adults to use our crossings, especially if walking a child to or from school, this helps set a great example for all of our kids about safe road crossing practices.
Summer Festival
We are all very excited for the upcoming Summer Festival! The market sounds fabulous and I know you will enjoy our whole school performance and our Kapa Haka group.
We have a range of stalls, food items and activities which require a ticket or tickets to enter
or purchase from. Tickets are $2.50 each or get five tickets for $10. Tickets can be
purchased at the festival, but save time and avoid the queues on the day and pre-purchase
your tickets on Kindo. These will be given to your child before the Summer Festival to bring
home. Ticketed events include face painting, the balloon artist, the photobooth and the very popular Pluck a Duck, among many others!
The Kindy will be performing at 3.15pm at the Summer Festival and the Greenhithe School Band at 4pm. So make sure you have a listen. Just a quick reminder about our school performance. A bell will go at 5:30 and at this point all the children will go to their classrooms to get ready for the performance! We would appreciate your support in directing your child to go to their room when the bell rings. The performance will begin about 5.45pm opened by our fabulous Kapa Haka group.
I would like to again thank the PTA, who are putting in hours and hours of work at the moment to ensure we have a fantastic community event. I am really appreciative of the opportunity to gather as a school and community. I look forward to seeing you all there!
Hats and Sunscreen
We are finally having some warm and sunny days! Please remember that your child requires a named school hat (it is part of uniform requirements) in terms 1 and 4. Please also consider sunscreen for your child at this time of year. We have plenty of shaded areas, thanks to the shade sails that the PTA helped us fund.
Greenhithe Life Magazine
Please find the link below for the Greenhithe Life Magazine, inside you will find another example of our amazing kids doing wonderful things for our community. This story makes me very proud of our children. The way they are looking to improve their community for themselves and others!
Look out for the new issue outside the office very soon!
Survey to support planning for 2024
A big thank you to those who have helped us over this year to gather information during our various consultation events we have held. Please find a link to a survey with our questions that we have asked during the year. These will help us to confirm our priorities for 2024, including topics for parent information evenings for next year. We really value any information you can give us. The survey will close on Tuesday next week. If you would rather come and have a chat, feel free to come and find me at the bottom car park before and after school most days.

Curriculum Refresh and the New Government
We are awaiting information of changes to the current refreshed curriculum that we are working on at the moment from the Ministry of Education. The new Government has given some indication of where this may be headed, but we will be guided by the information that will come to us via the Ministry. As we await these changes we continue to deliver effective teaching and learning in our school and continue to strive for every child in our school to reach their full potential.
As the information around any changes comes to light and we make decisions on the implementation of these changes at Greenhithe, we will ensure we communicate how any alterations to our teaching and learning will be implemented at our school. I look forward to sharing these with you in 2024.
End of term
The end of the school year is hurtling towards us! Just a quick reminder that our last day is Friday 15th December and that school finishes at 12 on that day!
